PLURAL FORMS
PLURAL
Today we are going to talk about PLURAL FORMS
PART 1:
In English, only the nouns and some articles have plural forms, on the other hand, in Portuguese, it is also required in articles, adjectives and verbs.
See the examples:
Singular:
“AQUELA MULHER ALTA ESTÁ PERDIDA.”
(That tall woman is lost.)
Plural:
“AQUELAS MUHERES ALTAS ESTÃO PERDIDAS.”
(Those tall women are lost.)
PART 2:
The general rule to make plural is just ADDING “S” to the nouns.

CASA – CASAS (houses)
MENINO – MENINOS (boys)
GRANDE – GRANDES (big)
But, there are some exceptions:
1) Words ending in “R” or “Z“:
MULHER – MULHERES (women)
VOZ – VOZES (voice)
2) Words ending is “M“:
HOMEM – HOMENS (men)
3) Words ending in “L“:
LENÇOL – LENÇÓIS (bed sheets)
4) Words ending in “M“
VIAGEM – VIAGENS (trips)
5) Words ending in “ÃO” – There are 3 different ways, however, there is no rule to know which one is required to each word. You need to memorize:
PÃO – PÃES (bread)
LIMÃO – LIMÕES (lemons)
CIDADÃO – CIDADÃOS (citizens)
